IDFC FIRST Bank is a private-sector bank in India offering a wide range of personal and business financial services. Known for its customer-first approach, the bank focuses on simplifying finance with transparency and digital solutions.
Bringing Bugs to Life — From Actor to Mascot
The Bugs mascot is based on a live-action actor familiar to IDFC’s audience. This character was reimagined as a flat, expressive vector illustration designed to be both trustworthy and approachable.
The design process started with photo references of the actor and moved through several concept sketches exploring different styles and expressions.
Character Evolution
Initial concepts experimented with cartoonish exaggeration and playful poses. The final design balances humor and professionalism, with a range of versions showing Bugs in various funny scenarios—like sporting a broken leg or exaggerated cartoon expressions—that add personality and lighten the tone of the onboarding experience.
The Family Story — Illustrating Life’s Milestones
The family concept began with rough sketches to establish a relatable nuclear family unit, covering a young couple, their children, and how they age over time. Early designs focused on defining character proportions, expressions, and style consistency.
Character Sheet & Variations
A comprehensive character sheet was developed, illustrating nine variations of the family members across different life stages. This included detailed expressions—especially for the father—to reflect a range of emotions aligned with financial life events.
Scenario Illustrations
Multiple detailed scenes were created to showcase typical life moments such as buying a first home, dealing with medical emergencies, or planning a family holiday. Each scenario was designed to visually communicate how IDFC’s products support real people through everyday challenges and milestones.
